Gemin X Biotechnologies to Webcast Presentation at BIO CEO & Investor Conference

Montréal, Canada – February 19, 2004 – Gemin X Biotechnologies Inc., a privately held biotechnology company developing novel cancer treatments based on the regulation of apoptosis, announced today that President and CEO Dan Giampuzzi will present an overview of the Company on Tuesday, February 24 th , 2004 at 11:30 AM (EST) during the 6 th Annual BIO CEO & Investor Conference. The conference will take place February 23-25 at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City and will feature presentations by leading biotechnology executives, investors, analysts and medical experts.

Giampuzzi’s presentation will include an update on Gemin X’s progress with its lead product candidate, GX15-070, a small molecule pan-inhibitor of Bcl-2 family proteins that selectively induces apoptosis in cancer cells. Gemin X’s GX15-070 lead compound has demonstrated single agent efficacy in multiple animal models, and the Company anticipates initiating clinical trials for this agent in 2004.

A recording of Gemin X’s presentation at the conference will be available through the Company’s web site at www.geminx.com. Apoptosis is the natural process through which the body eliminates diseased or damaged cells. Apoptosis is frequently suppressed in cancer cells by factors such as upregulation of Bcl-2 proteins, which are implicated in up to one-third of all new cancer incidences each year, including cancers of the lymph, breast, lung, prostate and colon. Gemin X’s GX15 small molecules are designed to inhibit anti-apoptotic members of the Bcl-2 protein family, selectively restoring apoptosis in cancer cells and destroying them without affecting normal cells. The GX15 small molecules have demonstrated efficacy in multiple animal studies at doses far below their maximum tolerated doses, indicating that these compounds may offer superior safety profiles to those of standard chemotherapy agents and radiation.

Gemin X Biotechnologies Inc . specializes in the discovery and development of novel small-molecule cancer therapeutics based on the regulation of apoptosis, the body’s natural ability to destroy injured or damaged cells. Gemin X’s two lead programs focus on pan-inhibitors of Bcl-2 proteins and small molecules that induce apoptosis in p53-defective cancers.
