About UsHistory Established in 1998 by leading researchers in programmed cell death (apoptosis), Gemin X has since assembled a team of 60 highly skilled and motivated individuals, many with graduate degrees in molecular biology, chemistry and medicine. The company presently occupies a 15,000 sf research facility located in downtown Montreal, steps from the McGill University campus. Gemin X's Clinical Development, Regulatory and Drug Development teams are based in Gemin X's US offices located in Malvern, PA. Focus The current focus of Gemin X Pharmaceuticals is to discover and develop advanced oncology therapeutics based on novel mechanisms of action. Gemin X's research on the Bcl-2 cell death regulation pathway has led to the discovery of a novel small molecule, GX15-070 (obatoclax) that selectively restores the cell death program in cancer cells. Obatoclax has shown promising activity in both preclinical and early human clinical studies. Obatoclax is in multiple human clinical studies for various cancers in which Bcl-2 has been reported to be up regulated. Gemin X’s second cancer compound, GMX1777, is a novel small molecule that acts independently from the p53 pathway to cause tumor regression. In preclinical models it has shown activity in a broad range of hematological and solid tumor cancers. GMX1777 entered first human clinical studies in 2007. Gemin X also has other active research programs in the area of telomere capping and p53 independent mechanisms. Gemin X may seek co-development alliances to continue later-stage development and commercialization of these molecules after advancing these candidates internally through preclinical and early stage clinical development. Capabilities Integrated capabilities in target discovery and validation, high-throughput screening, medicinal chemistry and preclinical development form the core of the company's discovery engine in Montreal, while development of efficient Clinical strategies and management of all aspects of Manufacturing and Drug development are conducted by Gemin X’s experienced Oncology Clinical Development, Drug Development and Regulatory groups in Malvern, Pa. Gemin X's intellectual property portfolio covers a wide range of technologies and molecules. |
