Collaborations
Gemin X’ focus is on interesting science and understanding new pathways and innovative ways to fill unmet medical needs for cancer patients. As an extension of our own research programs, we seek collaborations with others to add to our technology base to achieve this goal.
Our collaboration strategy is to license innovative small molecules that have a novel action in the oncology therapeutic area. Gemin X evaluates many different small molecule opportunities from a variety of sources, including universities, research institutions and other biotechnology or pharmaceutical companies.
Gemin X’ expertise lies in adding value to the drug development process for our partners. Therefore, in most cases, we wish to conduct Phase 1 and 2 trials to establish proof of principle and efficacy. Beyond Phase 2, Gemin X may seek partnerships with larger global companies to develop and market its research pipeline outside of the US.
A recent collaboration example is our worldwide license from LEO Pharma of GMX1777. The compound is a water-soluble, intravenously administered prodrug of the LEO Pharma compound CHS828. Gemin X performed extensive preclinical studies on GMX1777 to optimize the exposure and therapeutic potential of the compound and completed IND-enabling studies to launch the first human clinical trial of the prodrug. The prodrug is expected to provide a more favorable therapeutic index than the orally administered LEO compound CHS828. Therefore, Gemin X has initiated a Phase 1 clinical trial with GMX1777 in patients with refractory solid tumors and lymphomas.
We continue to seek other collaboration opportunities, as well. With a strong scientific research-oriented group in Montreal, Canada and a clinical, regulatory and drug development group in Malvern, PA, we can act quickly to move from the lab to the clinic and identify trial opportunities. We are eager to discuss potential collaborations with partners.
